Troubleshooting IMAP or OAuth connection errors

If your account fails to connect, it’s usually due to a provider-side setting. Here are the most common fixes.

Updated today

1. Wrong password or missing app-specific password

  • Apple, Yahoo, AOL, and some Microsoft accounts require app-specific passwords.

  • Regular login passwords will not work in those cases.

2. IMAP access is disabled

Some providers (like Outlook.com accounts) allow IMAP to be turned off.
If IMAP is disabled, Marco cannot sync your mail.

3. OAuth failed due to account permissions

For Google/Microsoft accounts:

  • Ensure you're logged into the correct account while authorizing

  • Your admin may restrict IMAP/OAuth access for work/school accounts

4. Provider rate-limits

If you use multiple email clients simultaneously, your provider may temporarily block IMAP access—we explain it here. Marco will retry automatically.
